French civil status in Togo: procedures in Lomé, by appointment and by post

In Togo, French civil status is handled by the consular section of the French Embassy in Lomé, located on the Coopération site since January 2026. Many files are processed by post only.

Birth

  • Declaration within 30 days, by appointment, under the rule “1 appointment = 1 person”. The consulate reports many missed appointments, which lengthen waiting times.
  • Transcription by registered mail with acknowledgement of receipt; only the French parent can apply for a minor child.

Marriage: Togolese records must be rigorous

  • CCAM and transcription files are sent by post only, with acknowledgement of receipt. Banns for 10 days, interview possible.
  • For the Togolese spouse: certified copies of parts (“volets”) no. 1 and no. 4 or 5, a typed copy of the counterfoil, and all supplementary judgments with their certificates of non-objection.
  • Entries must be identical from one record to another, accents included: a simple spelling difference can block the transcription.
  • The consulate advises setting the wedding date only after receiving the CCAM.

PACS, divorce and death

  • A PACS is applied for by post to Lomé, using the Cerfa forms provided.
  • A Togolese divorce must be declared enforceable by the public prosecutor in Nantes if the marriage was celebrated outside France.
  • A death is first declared to the Togolese authorities, then registered without delay.

Visa for France from Togo

  • Applications are decided by the consular section of the French Embassy in Lomé.
  • Files are submitted by appointment at the Capago centre in Lomé. Spouses of French nationals whose marriage has been transcribed may submit without an appointment, from 11 am to 1 pm.
  • Processing of a long-stay visa can take up to eight months when civil status records must be verified.

If your visa is refused, the appeal is the same for every country: within 30 days, before the CRRV for a long-stay visa or before the Deputy Director for Visas for a short stay, then before the Administrative Court of Nantes.
