The French Embassy in Niger is closed. For Franco-Nigerien families, French civil status is now handled remotely.
Who is competent?
- Requests for transcription, update or use of civil status records are sent directly to the Central Civil Status Service (SCEC) in Nantes, by post only: Département Transcription, Service central d’état civil, Ministère de l’Europe et des affaires étrangères, 44941 Nantes Cedex 9.
- Other consular procedures fall under the consular section of the French Embassy in Togo, in Lomé.
- Forms are available on the post’s website or, failing that, on request from the SCEC.
What you need to know
There is no longer an official page specific to Niger for birth, marriage, PACS, divorce or death: the civil status section of the embassy website returns an error. Families must therefore rely on the general rules and on the SCEC’s instructions, with no counter to check their file.
Visa for France from Niger
According to the embassy, the French consulate in Niger is no longer able to issue visas, and student files can no longer be processed. Visas already issued remain valid. Beware: the France-Visas page for Niger, which still indicates submission in Niamey, is not up to date.
If your visa is refused, the appeal is the same for every country: within 30 days, before the CRRV for a long-stay visa or before the Deputy Director for Visas for a short stay, then before the Administrative Court of Nantes. See our page French visa refusal lawyer and our pages on visas for spouses of French nationals, family reunification and students.
